Free Clinical Breast Examination

Normally the National Association for Cancer Awareness is conducting free Clinical Breast Examination at NACA headquarters on Tuesday the first week of every month. All those who are interested, please call NACA to make an appointment before Tuesday 7th of September 2010. The time will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, no evenings because of Ramadhan.

The Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU)

Please note that the Mobile Unit will be in Athaiba head quarters during the Holy month of Ramadhan. For those who are interested please call for an appointment for shortage of Radiographers. The timing will be from morning 9:00 to 2:00 PM. Women who are interested to do the Mammography should please check the criteria on our website.

Setting up “Home Away from Home”

One of the objectives of the National Association for Cancer Awareness is to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. We believe cancer care is not just about medical technique, but should also include psychosocial support.
In Oman we have one special cancer centre in the capital area. Cancer patients must often come from a distance to have access to care. To receive treatment, they need to stay either at the hospital or nearby. For some people the cost of accommodation limits their access to health care; some patients do not attend as regularly as they should or simply abandon their treatment, which increases the chance of recurrence and death.
For this reason the association has taken action to facilitate access to treatment and to set up a home away from home for those patients who cannot stay at the hospital but cannot afford a hotel while receiving care.

World Health Day
April 13, 2010
World Health Day held on April, 7th 2010 in 1000 cities around the world. The campaign theme of this year was the "1000 cities - 1000 lives". The campaign focused on urbanization and health. The idea of 1000 cities is to open up public spaces to health and to promote healthy environment, whereas, the idea of 1000 lives is to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities.
Sultanate of Oman celebrated the World Health Day and opened up streets for health activities. The World Health Organization (WHO) representative Ministry of Health organized a walkathon of four-kilometer in four different Omani cities; Sohar, Sur, Nizwa and Salalah. Many adults and children participated in the four-kilometer to mark World Health Day on last Wednesday.
